Privacy
This is a static site about paperback books, with a free daily logic-grid puzzle. There are no accounts, forms, comments, newsletters, or shopping carts.
The daily puzzle stays in your browser
Your marks on the grid, whether you finished a case, and your streak are saved in this browser’s own storage under keys beginning fsm-daily-. They are never sent anywhere — not to us, not to Google, not to anybody — and there is no account to attach them to. Clearing this site’s browser data clears them, and they do not follow you to another device or another browser.
This happens whether or not you accept analytics. It is how the puzzle remembers where you were, and it is the only storage the puzzle needs.
Optional Google Analytics
With your permission, this site uses Google Analytics to measure page visits, how the daily puzzle is used, and clicks from this site to Amazon. The Google Analytics tag does not load, and no analytics events are sent, until you press Accept.
If you accept, these are the only events this site sends, and they are the complete list:
page_view— a page was opened.daily_cta_click— a link to the daily puzzle was followed, and from where on the page.puzzle_start— a first mark was made on a grid.puzzle_check— Check was pressed: which attempt it was, and whether the result was incomplete, incorrect, or solved.puzzle_auto_cross— Fill obvious Xs was pressed, and how many crosses it added.puzzle_complete— a case was solved.puzzle_reveal— the solution was revealed.puzzle_reset— a grid was cleared.share— a result was shared or copied, and by which method.amazon_outbound_click— an Amazon button was pressed, and which one.
Each event may carry the page it happened on, the puzzle’s date and number, and the difficulty label. Your marks on the grid, the clues, and the solution are never included in any event. This is enforced in site-tracking.js, which drops any event name and any parameter that is not on the list above before anything is sent.
If you accept, Google Analytics may process page, browser, device, referral, cookie, and identifier information under Google’s own policies. We send only static, non-personal labels with our events. We do not ask Google Analytics to collect your name or email address.
Google advertising storage, ad-user-data, and ad-personalization consent remain denied. We use Analytics for aggregate website measurement, not advertising personalization.
Your choice
If you press Decline, Google Analytics is not loaded and this site sends it nothing. The daily puzzle works exactly the same way either way. The choice is stored in your browser under fsm-consent-v2 as only accepted or declined.
The version number is part of the disclosure. It moved from fsm-consent-v1 to fsm-consent-v2 when the daily puzzle launched and the puzzle events above were added, so an earlier acceptance of a shorter list is not treated as agreement to a longer one — you will be asked again.
To change your choice, use Cookie choice in the footer of any page. That clears the saved choice and displays the notice again. Clearing this site’s browser storage does the same thing.
Amazon links
When you follow a book or series link, you leave this site for Amazon. Google Analytics installed here cannot see your Amazon account, basket, or purchase. Amazon is the retailer and applies its own privacy practices.
Changes
If this site’s measurement changes, this page and the consent version will be updated before the new measurement is enabled.
